WASHINGTON – OS1 Martin Vories was selected as the Navy Wounded Warrior of the Month by Navy Region Southwest for July 2021.

Vories joined the Navy in January 2009 and has served onboard the USS George Washington (CVN-73), Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 and Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Golden Gate.

In April 2018, Vories was in a motorcycle accident. As a result of the accident, he sustained multiple orthopedic injuries and internal bleeding, requiring ICU care.

After his accident, Vories was enrolled in the Navy Wounded Warrior program. “During (my time with Navy Wounded Warrior), I was assisted with my non-medical needs and got involved with the Adaptive Sports program,” he said.

Vories was enrolled in the Navy Wounded Warrior Program for about three years. “I feel that transitioning from active duty to civilian was a hurdle at times, but with my family and the Navy Wounded Warrior program, I was able to get all my ‘ducks in a row’.” He continued, “with all that, I was able to come out successful and very grateful for my Navy Wounded Warrior team who were there along the way,” he shared about his time with the program.

Since his accident, Vories has found success and happiness, including having his third child, relocating to a new city, and finding full-time employment.

Navy Wounded Warrior is the Navy’s sole organization for coordinating the non-medical care of seriously wounded, ill and injured Sailors and Coast Guardsmen and providing resources and support to their families. Through proactive leadership, the program provides individually-tailored assistance designed to optimize the success of the wounded warriors’ recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration activities.
